Ayurveda Retreat FAQs

What is Ayurveda Retreat?

Ayurveda Retreat is a treatment-only Massage & Wellness Spa, so please do not anticipate a hot tub, steam room or sauna. We use the term ‘spa’ in line with the International Spa Association’s definition, which is:

“Spas are places devoted to overall well-being through a variety of professional services that encourage the renewal of mind, body and spirit.”

Although we specialise in Ayurveda, we do also offer other massages and holistic therapies (see following question).

Are you ‘Covid-Secure’?

Yes, we have taken matters very seriously ahead of reopening on 25 July 2020. Please read about the Covid-19 Safety Measures we have taken, which includes details of what you need to bring with you on your visit.

What treatments and therapies do you offer?

We offer a variety of different massages including Luxurious Ayurvedic Massage, Rejuvenating Oil Massage, Sports Massage, Pregnancy Massage, Back Massage and Indian Head Massage.

Ayurvedic Consultations, Reiki, Reflexology, and a selection of Specialist Ayurvedic Treatments and Treatment Plans are also available.

Do you offer gift vouchers?

Gift vouchers are available in varying amounts and can be bought online. Payment is to be made upfront and is none refundable. When you purchase a Gift Voucher it will come with a 12 month expiration date from the date of issue.

Do you have parking?

Unfortunately, due to our town-centre location we do not have our own car park but you can find out more about the nearest car parks on our How To Find Us page.

Do your therapists allow ‘extras’ during/following a massage?

Simple answer; no… absolutely not (so please don’t embarrass yourself by asking).

How should I prepare for my treatment?

Always arrive at least 10-15 minutes early so that you can check in and relax before your treatment. If having an Ayurvedic Massage you will be massaged with special herbs and oils, so it is best not to wear perfume, heavy aftershave, or strongly scented lotions that might interfere with the treatment. Ideally, make-up should also be removed prior to the treatment.

Can I eat before my treatment?

To get the full benefits of your treatment it is best not to eat beforehand (especially heavy meals). However, if you are very hungry, it’s better to have a small snack so that you aren’t distracted by a growling stomach during your treatment.

What should I wear for my treatment?

Please wear something comfortable, but in the case of an Oil Massage we suggest that you don’t wear expensive clothing that could get stained. (Full shower facilities are available if having an Ayurvedic Massage, should you wish to remove the oil from your skin prior to departure.) We provide you with single-use underwear for body treatments (you are welcome to wear your own underwear but please be advised that it may become stained with oil). In order to preserve your modesty at all times, our therapists are trained in draping techniques.

Can I have a treatment if I’m pregnant?

Out of duty of care, our therapists are unable to carry out treatments on clients that are pregnant. The only exception to this is if carrying out a Pregnancy Massage, which is specifically designed to ease some of the discomforts of pregnancy. Even in the case of this particular massage, however, the client must:

a) be in the second or third trimester but at no more than 36 weeks;

b) have a low-risk pregnancy;

c) have at least verbal permission from their GP.

Will a single treatment be beneficial?

Yes, but to receive the most benefit we recommend getting regular treatments. You can purchase a package of 5 x treatments, which has to be paid for upfront but will save you money in the long-run.

Do I need to tell my therapist about any medical conditions?

Yes, it is important for your therapist to be fully aware of all your current medical conditions, including pregnancy or suspected pregnancy, because in some cases massage therapy is contraindicated. Please advise us prior to booking a treatment if you are currently experiencing any of the following:

Infectious skin condition or skin condition with itching, oozing, redness or hives; scalp infection/dandruff; open cut or wound; severe bruising; high temperature or fever; cold or flu virus/cough; hyperacidity; gout; auto-immune disorder; diabetes (Type 1); severe circulatory disorder; heart condition; epilepsy; thrombosis or embolism; recent injury/surgery; recent scar tissue.

Are the Ayurvedic treatments suitable for children?

Yes, but all children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, who will need to stay in the treatment room for the duration of the massage/treatment.
